Activities The following activities are held at the Club. These are competitive events that range from informal Club level competition to National Match level events. Please see the Monthly Calendar and the Newsletter to find out when these activities are scheduled. In addition, the range is always open for your personal shooting use when an event is not in progress. PPC: Practical Pistol Competition PPC was started prior to W.W.II by the FBI., and it was termed the Practical Pistol Course until 1959. Two Indiana State Police Officers and a special agent for the FBI, developed the course of fire for police officer training. Several years later the NRA picked up on it and developed the National Police Pistol Championship in Jackson, Mississippi. Today, the course is fired with a semi auto pistol or revolver at different positions ranging from standing, kneeling, prone, right hand barricade, and left hand barricade. Time limits range from 20 seconds to 2 minutes 45 seconds. This is a good way to learn marksmanship and become proficient with a handgun. Equipment required: Any center fire, open sighted, double action revolver, or semi auto pistol, 120-200 rounds of ammo, holster is desired. This match is open to anyone who wants to shoot it. Match course of fire for the NRA 1500 course: Match course of fire for PMA 1200 course: Practice: October through March, we will be indoors every other Wednesday at 7 p.m. for practice/instruction at the Brickyard Range. No Charge. Matches: Entry fee for the Matches is $15.00. For more information call 816-743-9218. Practice on Tuesday nights Fall/Winter/Spring, outdoors in Summer months. To get a classification card you must be a member of the NRA, or you can shoot in the unclassified class, which is the Master class. We will have a .22 Rimfire Class at our match. This is for someone just starting out or for the person that just wants to shoot and have fun the inexpensive way. Just have a strong side draw holster for the gun, come out, and have some fun! Your scores will be submitted to the NRA and you will get a Classification in the Rimfire Class in NRA Action Pistol. Other than .22 Rimfire the minimum caliber is 9 mm and the power factor required is 120,000. Bullet velocity times bullet weight equals power factor. i.e.: a 115gr bullet would have a velocity of 1044 fps to make power factor (115 x 1044 = 120,060). Guns used can be right out of a box or fully customized, that is up to you and your bank account. To keep things fair, Action Pistol has five classes that competitors
shoot in according to their skill level. We shoot at tombstone shaped cardboard targets and steel targets that are 8" diameter. We shoot the four different Bianchi events each month. Moving target event from 10 yds to 25 yds, 48 rounds
ammo. Timer activated turning targets on the Barricades and Practical events. Timer activated lock bars with auto resetters are used on the plate range with a horn to signal the start and stop of each string fired. The turners, horn and lock bars are run by an electronic timer. It's a lot of fun, come on out and give it a try. Our normal monthly club level matches are held on the first Sunday of the month and fees are $15.00 to shoot, however the Regional will cost $85.00 to shoot and will be held on October 6, 2007 (practice on the 5th). At the Regional we're giving out 9 free Bianchi Cup entries to the next years NRA Bianchi Cup and some cash for each class, plus we have a prize table to boot. We are expecting up to 40 shooters to come in for this match. It should be a lot of fun to shoot and watch. Any questions or comments contact Mike Harris by e-mail nraactionpistol@earthlink.net. This will be the fourth year of the games. We will be using the classification system we started last year. There are 36 shooters currently on this list, however if you are a new shooter you start out in the Marksman class. You will advance to the next class by shooting out of your class two weeks in a row. It is possible to go down in class by not shooting your classification five weeks in a row. I have tried to run these games so that everyone who competes has a chance to win in the class they shoot in. There must to be rules to go by, AND I MAKE THE RULES. Some of these rules are- no slings-no hand stops or palm rests- no radically altered stocks so as to give an un-fair advantage in any position. Nothing under the supporting hand to raise it off the floor in the prone position. Basically I will not allow anyone to gain an un-fair advantage over another shooter by altering equipment or using equipment that is not available to other shooters. ENTRY FEE: $5.00 ($3.00 will go into the prize fund, $2.00 will go to the gun club) PAY BACK WILL BE FOUR PLACES. 1st master-1st expert-1st sharpshooter-and 1st marksman. Prize money paid every night. There must be four shooters in a class to establish competition. If there are less than four shooters in a class they will be combined upward until there is a class. If there are less than four masters they will shoot for win only. COURSE OF FIRE: 50 rounds at paper targets of various sizes and shapes. Week one will be the standing position. Week two will be the sitting position. Week three will be the prone position. Week four will be FOUR positions shooting. This sequence will run for the duration of the games so if there is some positions you can not shoot dont come that night. However you may fire from the standing position on ANY night. All targets will be timed, depending on the difficulty of the target (Never less than 3 minutes). All targets will be shot in 10 round strings so you will need a 10 round magazine. Targets will be suitable for a scoped silhouette type gun. For more information contact George at 816-697-2221 or email to BullsEyeGeo
